The number of chlamydia cases
is on the decline but the disease is still the most widely reported in Tampa according to the Florida Department of public health. However, the number of new chlamydia diagnoses increased slightly by 2.3% from 2013 to 2014 with 7,391 new infections reported in 2014.

There were 19 cases of acute hepatitis C infections compared to 13 infections the previous year in Tampa.
HIV cases increased by 36.7% in Tampa region from 2012 to 2013 with 365 new infections reported in 2013. The County had the fourth highest HIV infection numbers in the state of Florida.
Those in the 20-39 age group were the most affected by HIV in Hillsborough County. Blacks accounted for 43% of the HIV infections out of the total 2,909 cases reported in 2013 followed by whites at 37.5%. The group at the highest risk of contracting HIV was men who have sex with men who accounted for 48.2% of the total cases.
