The rate of people living with HIV/AIDS in Newark and the greater Essex County in 2015 was the highest at 1247.3 per 100,000 people.
There was a total of 5,589 chlamydia cases in 2015 compared to 5,557 cases in 2014 in Newark and the greater Essex County. In 2015 those between age 20 and 24 accounted for 36% of the chlamydia cases and 44% of the total cases were black. Females were the most affected accounting for 71% of the chlamydia cases. Chlamydia is a silent disease that does not present with any symptoms if left untreated it can lead to PID and infertility.
The number of gonorrhea diagnoses increased from 1,488 cases in 2014 to 1,825 cases in 2015. Males accounted for 55% the new gonorrhea cases 2015. The most affected were those between the age of 15 and 19 who accounted for 31% of the infections. Blacks had the highest cases gonorrhea infections accounting for 62% of the cases.
The number of reported primary syphilis in 2015 was 14 cases and they were all male. Out of the 47 cases of secondary syphilis cases reported in 2015, only 4 were female the rest were male. Essex County had 228 reported cases of early latent syphilis, 200 were male and the most affected were between the age of 25 and 34 with 72 cases.
